Fourth of July

I lit myself a cigarette, it was burning like a fuse.
I was workin’ at the county fair, when she sauntered into view
Bright red boots, tight blue jeans,
white T—good Lord, this firecracker’s talking to me…

Riding on the ferris wheel, she laughed at all my jokes.
Came right out and asked me why on Earth would I still smoke
My best friend gave a nod when she beat him playing pool
and when I took her out to granny’s house, she jumped in to serve the food

So I’m standing here in church, but it ain’t on a Sunday.
My boys are kind of busted up, but we’re givin’ ‘em some leeway.
