Here I Am
Did you know there’s a button on your shirt unbuttoned?
I don’t mean to embarrass you, it just keeps catching my eye
a voice in my head says I should be up and running
but another voice says “boy, just enjoy the wine”
I was surprised to wake up to the sound of songbirds singing
and even more surprised to find you by my side
the day awaits and soon my phone will start ringing
but I haven’t shared a sunrise in a long, long time
So here I am
I can’t pretend I’m working from a plan
I’m not trying to impress, the next step is anyone’s guess
but it might be nice to take it hand-in-hand
Someone bet on me and built a life in Boston
It’s an understatement to say it didn’t work out
So I understand if you’re weighing all your options
and I won’t blame you if you’re overcome with doubt
but here I am
I can’t pretend I’m working from a plan
I’m not trying to impress, the next step is anyone’s guess
but it might be nice to take it hand-in-hand
I’ve had a lot of dark days
I’ve had a lot of pain
I’ve had a lot of sunny days
that felt like rain
and maybe I’m a dope, but something’s giving me hope
so whaddaya say?
‘cuz here I am
I can’t pretend I’m working from a plan
I’m not trying to impress, the next step is anyone’s guess
but it might be nice to take it hand-in-hand
