True Friends

—by Maggie Slane and Adam Olenn

Going through the motions, walking in my sleep
staring at faces of people on my screen
I’m supposed to speak, but I can’t even breathe
I’m lost in the dark, instead of living my dreams

A mask shaped like a smile
they all want to believe
and a sadness in the eyes
that no one seems to see

True friends – who know you as you are
I need a true friend to help me hold my heart
Even Hercules needs a little help now and then
True friends

I show everyone I’m laughing, but inside I want to die
open up the fault lines, and the fear in the hype
Hard to be a winner when every day’s a fight
and when I get my just desserts, it’s always humble pie

A mask shaped like a smile
they all want to believe
and a sadness in the eyes
that no one seems to see

True friends – who know you as you are
I need a true friend to help me hold my heart
Even Hercules needs a little help now and then
True friends

Lord, I want to believe
Someone cares enough to see me

True friends – who know you as you are
I need a true friend to help me hold my heart
Even Hercules needs a little help now and then
True friends
True friends
True friends
